Here’s one of those rare iconic watches that is a must have. A Gallet Military Chrono! And in must have condition. Including a servicing.

A rare 1960s Valjoux 72 Gallet Military Chrono in an all steel screwback case. Did I mention this is New OLD Stock? Correctimundo! A Gallet Military Chronograph with Valjoux 72 movement, a movement made famous by it’s use in the 40s through 50s Rolex chronographs, prior to Rolex going to a Zenith movement. In fact, the Valjoux 72 in this Gallet Chrono is considered the finest chronograph movement ever, powering the famous Heuer, Breitling and any other top chrono of the 40s through 70s!

Because you most likely searched out this Gallet Chrono watch on google since this is one everyone is always looking for. Well, you’ve found it. And, as I often must say with stuff here, it’s a one of a kind, so won’t last long. I have no others. Gallet, by the way, was perhaps the premier maker of Military timepieces, chronos and chronographs of all time, hence the collectibility of anything by the House of Gallet!

This Gallet Chrono is in highly minty condition, a New OLD Stock Gallet chronograph that has no wear on it, but a few very small marks (mostly needing a loupe to see) from storage over 50 years. Still with sticker on the back. This was a Gallet Dealer’s display case watch.

Though this Gallet Chronograph apparently had been kept serviced through the years, possibly for occasional running in the display case, I have had it serviced by our watchmaker, formerly with Rolex for 14 years in their Beverly Hills facility, until Rolex Beverly Hills closed down. The servicing for this Valjoux 72 Gallet Chronograph was done with the highest skill and on the finest equipment in the world (the same Rolex uses for it’s Daytona servicings), and comes with a warranty on the servicing good until July 2010). However, the servicing should last a good 5 years. Just for info, Rolex and Gallet charge in the $600-plus for the very same servicing.

Everything is original, including the MiNT Gallet Chrono dial which has glo numbers that, amazingly, still have a bit of life left in them, but only for a few moments after exposure to light. Which is more than most 50-year-old military dials have. The all steel Gallet case is Stamped on the inside (see pics below) with the Gallet stamp. Operating flawlessly, this Gallet chronograph runs 38mm diameter without the chunky crown, by 44mm lug length...a very big chrono for the time, making this Gallet quite at home with today’s large size watches.
